MOSO® Bamboo N-finity construction beams for use in buildings
New product range opens new markets for bamboo
23.01.2017. MOSO, Zwaag, NetherlandsThe new MOSO® Bamboo N-finity range is suitable for use in interior, facade and other outdoor applications. The structural bamboo beams are relatively light and still meet the necessary structural requirements for (semi)structural applications. A special vacuum-pressure impregnation process makes the material very durable and suitable for outdoor applications. A patented hook connection enables a maximum length of 5800 mm. MOSO® already completed the first reference project in the past year: Bamboo N-finity is used as for the support beams for the roof of the BMW solar carport in South Africa. Two other projects are being undertaken in Germany and France: in the new building of Klöckner Pentaplast AG Bamboo N-finity is used instead of aluminum carriers in the curtain-wall, and Bamboo N-finity forms an outstanding cladding system at the new Caisse d'Épargne building in Bordeaux.
The new MOSO® Bamboo N-Finity structural beam is an ideal complement to the wide range of bamboo products. As a driving force for innovation in the relatively young bamboo industry, MOSO® introduces this new material at BAU Munich and the International Building Fair in Utrecht.
Bamboo N-finity technical benefits
MOSO® Bamboo N-finity reaches the highest durability class according to EU standard EN350 with a special vacuum-pressure impregnation process (complying with BPR). The beams can be manufactured in different sizes and are available with a maximum dimension of 5800 mm x 120 mm x 200 mm or 5800 x 200 x 120 mm. The exceptional length is achieved with a patented hook connection between single bamboo strips. The material, which is supplied profiled in the final dimensions for outdoor applications, is tested for mechanical and static properties following EN408 (bending, tension, compression, shear). The test results show that MOSO® Bamboo N-finity is highly suitable for application as a structural beam. The Brinell hardness is ≥ 4 kg / mm² according to EN1534 and the material has a density of approx. 700 kg/m3. With these mechanical and static properties the low-maintenance beams are ideal for use as load-bearing elements. MOSO® Bamboo N-finity will turn grey over time when exposed to outdoor conditions, giving it a beautiful, natural look.
First reference projects
When BMW Designworks, Munich, was working on a new solar carport with integrated charging station, they started looking for a partner to manufacture the supporting beams from a sustainable ecological material. Thanks to the technical and sustainable features, Bamboo N-finity was selected. After nearly two years of development, the first carports were introduced in 2016 in South Africa; MOSO is officially a worldwide supplier for this project.
Bamboo N-finity is applied in the construction of the new complex of Klöckner Pentaplast BV in Montabaur, Germany. In this building, the beams are used as supporting elements in the building shell, replacing aluminum material.
20 years after being founded, MOSO offers a total program for indoor and outdoor, for project construction and housing and landscape architecture.
